The Girl in Blue

The Girl in Blue

In cold December nights, lit only by lamppost lights
There was a girl in blue, who lived in a town of red
Red Christmas hats and red mulled wine
Blue ripped jeans and blue hoodies that used to be mine
They called her Wing but she could not fly
So she fell from the heavens on the 29th of July
She grew up kind and she grew up strong
A school in England and a home in Hong Kong
The girl in blue, who kept to herself
Who was calm, quiet and rarely in view
If only they knew
What this girl could do
With eyes like dark chocolate but infinitely sweeter
And a smile she carried around like a portable gas heater
Warming up the world, her and her bunnies
We were deep into winter but at least it was sunny
From the road up East to the woods at West
I've never had a favourite colour, but I must confess
In this town of red, whenever I walk through
I'm looking out, for the girl in blue
